Shikishi - decorative graphics and paintings on a square board
Shikishi are a decorative paper boards, usually with a golden edge, sometimes even witha golden background, used in Japan to write and display poetry, as well as ink paintings, autographs, and so on. Fancy paper and eye catching designs make these pieces an excellent interior decoration. These can be displayed framed, or on a small stand / easel.
Different designs available:
1)A branch of white and pink sakura flowers on a muted golden background. These are subtle blue and golden accents. The design is painted free hand and with stencils.
There is a signature of the artist in the right bottom corner.
2)An image of traditional hina dolls, depicting an emperor and an empress in traditional clothing. This design is printed i red, white, and black, with some pink accents, on a bright golden background. These is the signature of the designer printed on the left.
3) A hand-painted image of a white hibiscus flower, on a simple cream background. The leaves are painted with ink containing golden powder.
There is a signature of the artist in the right bottom corner.
Size of each is H27.5xW24cm.
The backs are in cream color, with golden and silver speckles. Due to the age of the items, there are some minuscule stains on the backs; the fronts are in excellent condition.
